Paolo Rovero is professor of medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical biotechnology at the Medical School of the University of Florence. Since 1985, his research interests are related to the design, synthesis, conformational analysis and biological characterization of peptides of pharmaceutical, cosmeceutical, and biotechnological interest. After specializing in peptide science in Sherbrooke, Canada (1985-86), his career began in the pharmaceutical industry (Menarini Pharmaceuticals, Florence, Italy, 1986-1991) and then continued in different academic settings (National Research Council, Pisa, 1991-1998; University of Salerno, 1998-2003; University of Florence, since 2003).
Strongly involved in technology transfer, in 2003 founded the first academic spin-off company of the University of Florence, EspiKem Srl, currently involved in the development of peptide active ingredients of cosmeceutical interest.
