Aleksandra Czerchawy

Short biography

I am a chemist by passion, with a strong academic path focused on peptide chemistry and its biomedical applications. From early voluntary work, through my Bachelor’s studies in Chemistry (2019, Organic Synthesis) and Master’s studies in Chemical Technology (2020, Drugs and Plant Products Technology), to my current doctoral research, I have consistently developed my expertise in this field.

In 2020, I began my PhD in Chemical Sciences at Lodz University of Technology. Research at my home institution is centred on the development of peptide-based biomaterials for regenerative medicine. In parallel, my collaboration with PeptLab at the University of Florence has provided me with hands-on experience in peptide synthesis, purification, and advanced molecular characterization at both structural and biological levels.

My doctoral project combines two scientific perspectives and focuses on identifying peptide fragments of native proteins that may support the diagnosis of COVID-19. It involves both the detection of peptide biomarkers in biological samples and the selection, synthesis, and characterization of peptide fragments derived from the receptor responsible for SARS-CoV-2 spike protein binding, with potential applications in virus detection.

My research has been supported by international funding, including the European Peptide Society Mobility Fellowship, and includes collaboration with Gyros Protein Technologies, providing valuable industrial experience.
