Barbara Matos Post-doctoral researcher in Molecular Biomaterials at the University of Porto (Portugal) Research project: Advanced organic synthesis of a diazo-functionalized peptide amphiphile for prostate cancer drug delivery

Short biography:

Bárbara Matos holds a bachelor's degree in Biotechnology (2016) and a master's degree in Biochemistry (2018) at University of Aveiro, PT. Her master thesis aimed to explore the preventive effect of exercise training on prostate cancer-induced testicular dysfunction. In 2024, she completed her Ph.D. in Biomedicine with a thesis entitled “Developing a new approach for prostate cancer treatment: modulation of protein phosphatase 1 complexes using bioportides”.

With an interdisciplinary background, Bárbara’s areas of expertise include cancer research, protein-protein interactions, peptide synthesis and therapeutics and 2D/3D cell culture.

Bárbara is a Post-doctoral researcher in the Molecular Biomaterials Group at INEB/i3S, University of Porto, PT where she focuses in developing innovative biomaterials based on self-assembling peptides for molecular targeted therapies for prostate cancer.

During the international stay at Peptlab, Bárbara will design and synthesise peptide amphiphile variants incorporating a cytotoxic analog of an aminoacid, to be used as a drug delivery platform for prostate cancer treatment.
